Frequently Asked Questions
Is AKPsi open to men and women?
Absolutely! Alpha Kappa Psi is a co-ed professional business fraternity that is open to anyone who wishes to join. While we were founded as a male only fraternity in 1904, women have been admitted since 1976.
Do I have to be a business major to join AKPsi?
No, all students from different majors are welcome. Our brothers comprise of students from many different departments ranging from engineering and computer science to design and architecture.
What do I have to do to join?
Come to rush. You should come to as many events as possible and meet the brothers of Alpha Kappa Psi and get to know our core values and goals. After coming to events, you must submit an application to be considered for a bid.
What happens after I apply?
The application is to enter a pledge program. The pledge program is an opportunity for you to see if Alpha Kappa Psi is right for you. And it is an opportunity for us to evaluate if you have what it takes to be a brother of Alpha Kappa Psi.
Does that mean if you don't like me, I won't get in?
Unlike many Greek organizations, we base our judgment on merit. We evaluate pledges much like an employer of a company. We are looking for dedicated, hard working, goal oriented, enthusiastic men and women who have time and work well with others.
If I pledge, will I be hazed or forced to drink alcohol?
No! We have strict policies against any and all inappropriate behavior. It has no place in business and no place in Alpha Kappa Psi. For details of our policies ask us about our national regulations and codes concerning hazing, alcohol & drugs, and sexual harassment.
What does the pledge process involve?
Time and effort. We cover extensive professional and organizational skills, as well as soft skills such as public speaking and body language. This includes professional workshops, interviews, social events, and fundraising. The program is based on a professional development and success has to do with a person's ability to adapt to the Business world and manage his or her time well.
How much are dues?
We are significantly less expensive than most Greek organizations, and it is money well invested. Member dues, which are collected every semester, are one payment of $200. We understand that college students do have other obligations, so payment plans spread out in the semester are also possible in certain circumstances.
Are all members called brothers? Or are women called something else?
Men and women are all called brothers. We make no distinctions between members based on gender, race, etc. Each member has equal rights and privileges and the word "brother" transcends its gender implications by representing and standing for kinship, fraternal loyalty, and friendship.
Where can I find additional information about the fraternity?
For more information, you can check out our national website at www.akpsi.org Also be sure to check out our Wikipedia page, which has a lot of valuable information, such as more history, prominent alumni of AKPsi, as well as information about other chapters.
